The JBL 5.1 soundbar is not a review unit sent to us by the JBL brand to make JBL 5.1 Soundbar review. Instead, we bought it for Rs 65,000. After that, we completed its burn-in period. Then we tested this JBL 5.1 soundbar in rooms of all sizes to make an extensive JBL 5.1 Soundbar review. The links to all audio tests are given here. On the front and top of the JBL 5.1 soundbar is a metal grill. This metal grill gives it a premium look. On the sides is JLB’s logo made of brushed aluminum finish and it looks quite authentic. On top are push buttons that give a good response. The 10 inches subwoofer that comes along with this soundbar is a beast. It produces extremely powerful bass.
You also get a fully-functional remote control with calibration and sound shift. It is important as no other soundbar offers such capabilities as surround channels. All in all, this soundbar looks amazing, stunning, premium, and stylish.

Surround Channels:
You can place the surround channels anywhere you want to. You need to plug the calibration microphone into the jack given on the right side of the soundbar. Then keep the microphone in between the surround channels.
After that, click the calibration button and wait for 30 seconds for the magic to begin. The soundbar will calibrate the acoustics of the room and how sound travels to surround channels to give enhanced surround sound effects.
You can control the surround sound volume through a remote. The calibration option given in the remote is amazing.
Connectivity Options:
Connectivity options are on the back. You get 1 HDMI ARC port and 3 HDMI IN ports. You can connect everything simultaneously be it a TV or a gaming console.
This soundbar gives 4K Ultra HD passthrough if you attach a firestick to it. You get Bluetooth 4.2 and an optical port.
Audio Test Results 1: JBL 5.1 Soundbar Review
The audio test results of this soundbar gave us chills. You won’t get this magical sound from any other soundbar. According to some people and reviewers, you can attach a 10-inch subwoofer externally to get bass. But, trust us, the clarity that you get from this soundbar is different.
You can control the volume of this soundbar between the ranges of 0 to 30. The power distribution in the subwoofer can be manually controlled with the remote which is good. We tested its audio at 10, 20, and 30 bass settings. And in all the settings and levels what we witnessed was pure magic.
The audio from this JBL 5.1 soundbar will shake your neighbors with its loud and clear bass. Use this soundbar for parties to enjoy it the most. Even people who don’t like loud bass will enjoy it because the power distribution between bass and vocals is amazing. This enhances bass.
Frequency Analyzer Chart:
See this frequency analyzer chart recorded at 15 bass volume. We checked the power distribution of this JBL 5.1 soundbar while making JBL 5.1 Soundbar review. This soundbar starts producing bass from 45Hz which is amazing. The lower bass is amazing. There is a surge of power in the lower bass. Upper bass sharply declines for vocals to overpower it so that you enjoy movies and dialogues as well.
The night mode produces less bass and more vocals. Our audio clips are proof that there is no issue with vocals or bass. Rather, the high notes are so melodious. You would want to hear all genres of songs with it be it Gazals, rock music, or jazz provided you tune it properly.
What is its Audio Signature?
This soundbar is so versatile that you can create your own audio signature. Surely, it will amaze you!
For jazz, decrease the bass to 5 or 10, and for classical go down to 5 basses.
You can customize the audio signature to enjoy this soundbar in a versatile manner. But you don’t buy a soundbar only for songs. That is why we connected it to the TV to test its audio quality thoroughly.
Audio test Result 2: JBL 5.1 Soundbar Review
After connecting it with a TV, we got cinematic chills. You get the most versatile and amazing experience from this soundbar. These are the two important things-
1. The surround channels are battery-powered. Just click when you attach them and then they start charging. It takes 3 hours to charge completely. JBL claims 10 hours of playback but according to us, it is 6-7 hours. On high volume, you get 6-8 hours of playtime and on medium volume, you get 7-9 hours of playtime.
2. Make sure your surround channel volume is full when you use it. However, even at full volume, surround channels can’t produce the audio as a soundbar. There are 6 drivers and 3 tweeters. 4 drivers and 2 tweeters are in the soundbar and you get 1 driver in each surround channel. These drivers are calibrated differently.
On full volume, you will experience virtual surround sound. You won’t get the same loud audio as a soundbar. There are certain notes of surround sound and surround channels are supposed to play them and not every note.
Vocals, through surround channels, will not be that loud. You will hear certain frequencies only and that is what a good surround sound experience is. A surround channel should play only those frequencies that it is designed for. This soundbar does it extremely beautifully.
Pros & Cons:
- You get Dolby Digital, Dolby pro logic, and dts digital surround but no Atmos support. But that doesn’t make any difference because the clarity and surround sound experience of this soundbar is amazing. There will be hardly any scenario where you don’t like it. Since this soundbar doesn’t have atmos support, therefore, there is no need for an eARC port.
- You get good vocals, good bass, perfect highs and amazing surround sound, and clear separation.
- Buy it if you want a good experience and only if you have more than 300 sqft room which is 15ft wide. Otherwise, avoid it. You can’t enjoy this soundbar in rooms smaller than these specifications.
- It lacks an eARC port
- It does not support Atmos
What is the JBL sound shift button you get in the remote?
If you connect it to the phone via Bluetooth and you also connect it to the TV (where something is playing) via HDMI port, then you can click the sound shift button to switch to the phone’s song and the TV’s audio will be muted automatically and vice-versa.
However, there is a bug. It takes around 10 seconds for the soundbar to make that shift. This is not a big con but if it worked flawlessly, then it would have been an amazing feature. But sadly, we noticed a 10-second lag during our testing.
Who should buy it?
Everyone who has this budget should definitely buy this JL 5.1 soundbar. It is good for classical, jazz, hip-hop, old Hindi songs, and the latest pop songs. The bass can be customized in such a way that all genres can be played flawlessly. The entire frequency analyzer is a game changer.
The power distribution of this JBL 5.1 soundbar is just amazing. That is why we have rated it as the number one soundbar in this price segment.
